State of the City
State of the City Address by our Mayor on Feb 24th 2009
The mayor prepared a report for us that was positive and upbeat for our community. He reminded us that we are once again an All American City, saying it " represents our collective success as a community." He spoke of the growth in the downtown area and of our new Metro Intermodal Transit Center, a truly GREEN building.

He also spoke of the funds that Akron would like to receive from the Federal Recovery Act that just was just signed by our President. He spoke of the funds we will receive to deal with the foreclosed properties in our area:
"And In 2009, we will receive Over $10 million for
Neighborhood Stabilization. This will permit our new Planning Director John Moore to
acquire, rehabilitate, or demolish foreclosed and abandoned homes. Last year in Akron,
there were about 2,000 such homes. We will continue working with the Summit County
Foreclosure Task Force and Port Authority to develop a pool of funds to help people in
danger of foreclosure, before they're removed from their property. "
One of the most exciting things to me was his reference to the Keep Akron Beautiful campaign which has been able to bring about $2 million in grants through the Green Block Grants in 2009.
I am sure you will find something in his speech that excites you ... be sure to share it!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
