Summit County is Going Green !
Last night my husband and I went to the Highland Square Library http://akronlibrary.org/br-hsq01.html to hear a presentation from the Summit County Council on going Green. WOW! It is very exciting.....
Frank
Comunale, who is on the council (ward 4) hosted it....he is so
knowledgeable and fun to hear! He was able to persuade Chipoltes to
bring all of us chips....yummy and so good!
Summit County has
established a Green Policy Task Force.....Craig Stanley with the
department of Administrative Services for the County of Summit was
there to share with us some of the things they are doing. We also heard
from the local chapter of the Sierra Club.
"Summit County is
working to establish job training courses that will specialize in
energy efficient applications such as: solar panel installation,
geo-thermal HVAC installation, and other energy retrofits of buildings."
Kirt Conrad was there from Metro Transit http://akronmetro.org/index4.html he
had some exciting news regarding the new bus terminal. You may have
seen it....it is growing out the ground on Broadway and should be
operational towards the end of this year. It will be Gold Leed
Certified which is almost the highest environmentally friendly mark (
the highest is Platinum) a business can have.It will be totally self
sustaining.....WOW!
Additionally we heard from Lisa Bostwick from
the Greater Akron Partnership for Sustainability....she is very
passionate about keeping Akron GREEN!
We picked up quite a bit of
info and I will post some of it periodically. Feel free to post your
comments and suggestions for Going Green in Summit County....
